ABOUT DAEGU CITY, SOUTH KOREA

Location
The City of Daegu is located inland, southeast of the Korean Peninsula. Its current population is approximately 2.5million and over 600 native English speakers teach English language at around 300 private English language institutes (so called ‘hagwon’) and 20 universities and colleges in and around Daegu.


Topography
Daegu has Mt. Palgongsan in the north, Mt. Daedeoksan and Biseulsan in the south and other low mounds in the west and east. The Sincheon River runs through the central areas of the City. In the northern area of Daegu, the Geumhogang River flows east to west joining the Nakdonggang River, the longest river in South Korea, toward the southern cities of the Korean Peninsula.












Climate
The Daegu region has four distinct seasons like all other regions in Korea. Daegu, surrounded by high mountains in the northeast and south, is often very cold in the winter and hot and sticky in the summer. The heavy rain season is between the summer months of June and September. The hottest period is July through August, while January is the coldest month.


Transportation
Two railroad lines and four expressways pass through the Daegu area. Trains run between Daegu and Seoul and Busan by way of the Gyeongbu Line. Through the Jung-ang Line (Cheongnyangri, Seoul-Gyeongju), Gangneung, Gangwon-do can be reached from Daegu. Two train stations are located in the city, Daegu Station and Dongdaegu Station.

Daegu has served Subway Line No.1 (northeast-southwest) since November 1997 and Line No.2 (east-west) has operated since 2005.


Daegu International Airport covers domestic flights to Seoul and Jeju and international flights to some cities in China.
